What is Vape Juice Made of?

Vape juice has common ingredients that are shared between all vape juices. They contain Liquid Nicotine (unless you choose 0mg), Artificial or Organic Flavorings, Vegetable Glycerin and Propylene Glycol.

These 4 ingredients make up the majority of E Liquid on the market. You might find some vape liquids in the market without Propylene Glycol(PG) in their ingredients list, but it's not as common. Many vape juices list themselves as "Max VG", but the artificial or organic flavorings they are using contain PG, thus the vape juice is not 100% Vegetable Glycerin. Using the term "Max VG" usually refers to the fact that there is no added PG outside of whatever may be present in the flavoring used.

Vape Juice Ingredients

Liquid Nicotine

Liquid nicotine used in vape juice is used in percentages necessary to reach the desired nicotine blend that is being sold in the bottle. For example a 3mg nicotine vape juice will have 0.3% of nicotine in the final product. The 3mg nicotine refers to 3mg of nicotine being in each ml of liquid in the bottle. The rest being Vegetable glycerin, flavorings, etc. The nicotine is typically extracted from real tobacco leaves then blended in with Vegetable Glycerin, propylene glycol, or a mix of both. The end result is liquid nicotine with a specified strength. This liquid nicotine is then mixed in to the vape juice to whatever nicotine quantity is necessary for the intended result (1.5mg/ml, 3mg/ml, etc).

Vegetable Glycerin

Vegetable Glycerin is a plant based fluid that is typically derived from palm, soy, or coconut oil. It has a  slightly sweet flavor and is considered non-toxic. It is odorless, colorless and water soluble. It helps provide the vapor production (clouds) that are present when vaping. It is used in many other industries as well, but it is an extremely common ingredient in vape juices. It's hard to find a vape juice that was made without Vegetable Glycerin, though there are some companies who produce 100% PG Liquids.

Propylene Glycol

Propylene Glycol is seen in cosmetics, personal care, and pharmaceutical products. It is also an odorless and colorless, but has a much thinner consistency than vegetable glycerin. It is used mainly as a flavor enhancer and carrier and provides more of a throat hit than vegetable glycerin. It is commonly used as a flavor carrier. Many of the flavorings used in vape liquid (or elsewhere, like in your cup of coffee!) have Propylene Glycol as the base ingredient.

It is a synthetic compound (unlike Vegetable Glycerin).

The last ingredient that is necessary for vape juices is flavoring. They are flavoring as would be used in your ice cream, coffee, etc. and in some cases can be specially formulated for vaping, but could still be used for ice cream, baking, etc, just as before. They are what provide the flavor in the end product. They can be artificial flavorings or organic flavorings.

These four ingredients in vape juices are basically all that is needed. Many vape juices use different formulas and blends of flavors, VG and PG, but this is the base of it all.

Sweeteners in Vape Juice

Some companies also add sweeteners like Sucralose to their vape liquids, but we found that it's not necessary and don't do so our selves. The Clean Vape produces all of our E Liquid and Nicotine Salts without any artificial sweeteners like Sucralose. If you'd like more information on sweeteners in vaping you can check out our blog post on sweeteners.

Diacetyl, Acetyl Propionyl & Acetoin

These chemicals would be included in the flavorings that are used to make the vape juices. We don't use any of the listed chemicals in our vape juices. To find out more about Diketones (Diacetyl, Acetyl Propionyl and Acetoin) you can check out our blog post on diketones.
